Subject: End-of-Year Message

Fellow AMVETS, Ladies Auxiliary, Sons of AMVETS, AMVET Riders, Veterans, Families, and Friends,

As I reflect on this past year as your Department Commander, I am filled with gratitude and pride for all that we have accomplished together.

The success of our organization is not the result of one individual, but rather the collective efforts of dedicated volunteers and leaders working toward a common purpose—serving Veterans, their families, and our communities.

This year we made significant improvements to our Higgins Lake property, ensuring that it remains a valuable asset for our Members for years to come.

One of our most notable achievements was the installation of a new roof on the Higgins Lake Lodge, protecting the facility and preserving it for future generations of AMVETS Members.

In addition, we replaced the living room furniture in Cabins 1 through 6, enhancing the comfort and experience of the many Members and families who utilize these facilities each year.

We also focused on strengthening our organization through governance and modernization. Several proposed Bylaw changes will be presented at Convention to improve operations, clarify procedures, and position our Department for continued success.

These efforts were undertaken with the goal of ensuring transparency, accountability, and long-term stability.

Membership growth remains a priority throughout the year. Thanks to the hard work of our Posts, Districts, and Membership teams, we saw positive gains and welcomed new Members into our AMVETS family.

Every new Member represents another Veteran whose voice and service strengthen our organization.

I am also pleased that we successfully brought back the 50/25/25 raffle program. This initiative provides opportunities for fundraising while encouraging participation and support across the Department.

Its return demonstrates our willingness to revisit successful programs that benefit our Members and our mission.

None of these accomplishments would have been possible without strong collaboration.

Throughout the year, I worked closely with our Subordinate Organizations, District Commanders, Post Commanders, Department Officers, and Committe Chairpersons.

Together we addressed challenges, shared ideas, and focused on solutions.

While we may not always have agreed on every issue, we remained committed to the greater good of AMVETS and the Veterans we serve.

Most importantly, we continued our mission of supporting Veterans, promoting Patriotism, and serving our communities.

Whether through community events, Veterans’ assistance programs, Americanism activities, or countless hours of Volunteer service, our Members continued to demonstrate what it means to be an AMVET.

As my year as Department Commander comes to a close, I extend my sincere appreciation to every Member who contributed their time, talents, and dedication.

Thank you to our AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, Sons of AMVETS, Riders, and all Members of the AMVETS Family for your unwavering support.

The accomplishments of this year belong to all of us.

While there is always more work to be done, I am confident that the Department is stronger today because of your commitment and leadership.

Thank you for the privilege and honor of serving as your Department Commander.

May we continue to move forward together, united in our mission and dedicated to those who have served our nation.

God bless our Veterans, God bless AMVETS, and God bless the United States of America.

Respectfully,
Nat Pulizzi
Commander

Greetings fellow AMVETS,

As your National Commander, I want to thank the Veterans, Auxiliary, Sons, Riders, and Juniors who make up the AMVETS Family. Our strength has always come from working together as one team for the good of this organization and the Veterans we serve. As we look to the future, we must continue building trust, improving communication, and aligning our efforts at every level. When we operate as a united AMVETS Family, we strengthen our Posts, expand our programs, and ensure that our mission continues to benefit Veterans, their families, and our communities for generations to come.

This year, I encourage each of us to focus not only on moving AMVETS forward, but on co-elevating one another along the way. We go higher and further when we invest in each other, share opportunities, and build meaningful relationships across departments, posts, and programs. We should never eat alone—whether at a convention, meeting, community event, or local post function, we should use every opportunity to sit with someone new, strengthen bonds, and develop key relationships that make our organization stronger. Through mentorship, networking, and genuine fellowship, we can lift one another up and create a stronger, more connected AMVETS Family.

As AMVETS continues to evolve, we must always keep our traditions and mission at the front of our minds. For 80 years, we have done great things in service to American Veterans, and that legacy carries a responsibility. We must be mentors, leaders, and good stewards of the next generation of American Veterans who will carry this organization forward. At the same time, we must remain agile and adaptable to the future missions we face, whether that means addressing new challenges, embracing new ideas, or finding better ways to serve. By honoring our past while preparing for the future, AMVETS will remain a powerful voice for Veterans today, tomorrow, and for generations to come. Thank you for your service to our country and your continued dedication to AMVETS. Let us leave this convention committed to teamwork, relationship-building, mentorship, and mission-focused leadership.

Yours in Service,
Paul Shipley

PuroVet – A Pathway To Success

Letter from the Commander
AMVETS Department of Michigan

Dear Veteran,

As Commander of AMVETS, I have the privilege of seeing firsthand the strength, determination, and leadership that our Veteran community brings to every challenge. Those same qualities that made you successful in service can now help you succeed in business.

That’s why I am proud to support the PuroVet Program, an initiative created by PuroClean and championed by Vice Chairman Frank Torre to help Veterans like you become successful business owners.

PuroVet offers:

The property restoration industry is a $210 billion market, and PuroVet is opening the door for Veterans to claim their share. This program isn’t just about building businesses—it’s about building legacies and empowering Veterans to thrive in civilian life.

If you are ready for your next mission, I encourage you to explore the PuroVet Program and see how it can help you achieve financial independence, community impact, and long-term success.

Together, we can continue to serve—this time by building futures.

With pride and respect,

Commander’s 4th of July Message

Commander’s Message

AMVETS, Ladies Auxiliary, Sons and Riders

As we approach this Independence Day, we take a moment to reflect on the profound significance of this holiday, and I express my sincere gratitude for your unwavering dedication to our mission.

July 4th commemorates the birth of our nation – a day when courageous individuals declared their commitment to the ideals of liberty, justice, and self-governance. It’s a time to remember the sacrifices made by all generations since then to secure and defend these freedoms, and to reaffirm our own commitment to upholding them now and moving forward.

For the US Military, Independence Day holds a special meaning. We embody the sacrifice, and we represent the nation’s commitment to protecting those freedoms, both at home and abroad. We stand as a constant guardian, ensuring the principles preserved in the Declaration of Independence apply for all.

I encourage you to take time to acknowledge and celebrate Independence Day with family and friends. Whether it’s attending a local parade, enjoying a barbecue, or simply reflecting on the freedoms we have, we hope you find a way to honor this important day.

As July 4th also places us right in the heart of summer, please remember to celebrate responsibly and prioritize safety. This holiday lends itself to several reminders –

  • Veterans and Pet Safety – Veterans and pets are particularly sensitive to the sound of loud explosions. Please be mindful and respectful of those around you and the impact of what may be celebratory to you, can be triggering for someone else.
  • Fireworks Safety – watch your surroundings, be aware of windy and/or dry conditions, keep kids and pets in a safe area and have a source of water nearby
  • Heat and Pool Safety – stay hydrated, wear proper UV protection, always have an adult present when kids are swimming
  • Driving Safety – only drive if you are sober, are well rested, and use hands-free technology when using mobile devices

I wish you and your loved ones a safe, happy, and meaningful Independence Day. Thank you for your service and your commitment to defending the values that make up our nation great.

Committed to Excellence!
Nat Pulizzi, Commander
Department of Michigan
